How to choose a good light source?

First: Light Quality

The quality of light generated shows how good or bad a lighting source is. Light quality can be identified by two simple characteristics. 

-Correlated Color Temperature (CCT): It explains the color temperature of light sources. The yellow color is usually hotter than the red.

-Color Rendering Index (CRI): It describes the reproduction system of the various colors seen in light sources. A CRI of 100 is perfect while a CRI of 82 is better than that of 60.

Second, Efficiency

This shows how much light a light source generates. The incandescent lights are at the lowest ebb. 

Third, Timing
This covers flicker and the turn on time.   Incandescent bulbs are known to be very simple; they easily turn on immediately and glow to the full brightness.  Fluorescent bulbs require extra timing and a little bit complex.

Fourth, Dimming 
Incandescent bulbs drop their CCT levels as they dim, which makes them to look redder. Fluorescent tubes, on the other hand, also turn off when they become dim. LEDs also have dimming issues. 

Last but not least, Aging

Aging issues also occur in most of the light sources, but there’s a difference on aging duration. An incandescent bulb has a lifetime of 100 hours of usage.

Fluorescent bulbs have complex lifetime since their lifetime depends on how many hours they are used as well as the on/off cycles used.  Their lifetime stands at 10,000 hours of usage.

LEDs have longer lifetimes. This is because they are made of semiconductors that last for years. Their average lifetime stands at 50,000 hours.
